A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE CD
Joel and I first met and performed together at a salon concert featuring Rachmaninoff’s epic Op. 19 Cello Sonata in the Spring of 2008. It was then that REVEL was essentially conceived, so it’s only fitting that the piece that brought us together to play for the first time appear as the cornerstone of our first record. Also on this album are works that not only complement the Rachmaninoff, but have, like the Sonata, become personal favorites of ours. Along with the Op. 19, these pieces––Ravel’s sensuous Pièce en forme de Habanera, Manuel de Falla’s vibrant Suite Populaire Espagnole, and our own arrangement of Joseph Kosma’s timeless classic, Autumn Leaves––are among those that were received with particular enthusiasm by our audiences over the course of REVEL’s inaugural Dream Season.
That the repertoire was chosen from our Dream Season is entirely apropos; producing this CD has indeed been a dream. From the opportunity to delve into such a rich array of music, to the state-of-the-art facilities we enjoyed at Blue Rock Studio, to the recording expertise provided by Andy Murphy and Keith Gary, to the generous support given by Cathy Troutner and Martha Hilley, we couldn’t have asked for a more gratifying experience this first time out. In fact, we can’t wait to get to work on the next one!
Music is a gift that sustains us all. Our hope is that you will treasure the music on this recording as much as we have treasured the process of bringing it to you.
